|The GC Saliva Check Kit checks a range of salivary functions to determine whether the protective properties of saliva are in place.
The information can help assist in planning an appropriate treatment and prevention programme.
Characteristics and Benefits
• Comprehensive assessment checking both resting and stimulated saliva parameters
• Easy, patient friendly procedures
• Results are available within 2 minutes from collecting the saliva sample for buffering capacity, while all other test results can be recorded immediately
• Traffic light results are easily read and explained to the patient as part of the discussion about prevention and treatment
How to Use
Testing can be done as part of a routine examination, and the results explained to the patient by the dentist as part of discussion about prevention and treatment.
Step 1 HYDRATION and Step 2 VISCOSITY
Checks the flow rate, viscosity and consistency of unstimulated saliva giving information
on how the patient’s lifestyle may be affecting their oral health.
Step 3 and 5 pH of RESTING and STIMULATED SALIVA
Checks the pH of the patient’s resting and stimulated saliva. A low saliva pH reading indicates an oral environment favouring demineralization which could cause erosion or caries.
Step 4 QUANTITY of STIMULATED SALIVA
Checks the quantity of stimulated saliva a patient can produce. Low salivary flow rates helps to identify presence of any major salivary gland dysfunction.
Step 6 BUFFERING CAPACITY
Checks the buffering capacity of stimulated saliva establishing the effectiveness of the saliva in neutralizing acids in the mouth.
